Cushion Pros offers a variety of fabrics for our custom cushions and pillows. It is important for our customers to know proper cleaning methods to ensure your custom cushion and/or custom pillow maintain their new appearance for many years to come.
By following a few cleaning tips, you can maximize the lifetime of your bench cushion, chair cushion, chaise cushion, and/or throw pillows, bolster pillows, and lumbar pillows.

How to take care of your cushions and fabric
1. How do you care and maintain fabric of a cushion?
- Once a week, remove dirt from the fabric by lightly brushing or vacuuming your custom cushion and/or custom pillow. This will prevent dirt from entering the fabric and assist in preserving its appearance.
- Turn or reverse the cushions and pillows on your furniture often so they wear evenly. This will allow you to notice stains more quickly before they become problematic.
- If you are troubled with wrinkles, use an iron with a “synthetic fabric” heat setting. Do not use steam or hot settings.
2. What is the best way to clean cushions fabric?
- Lightly brush or vacuum your furniture prior to cleaning.
- Use a spray bottle to lightly mist your fabric with mild soap and water: 1/4 cup mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water. Use a sponge or a soft bristle brush as needed.
- Be sure to rinse the item thoroughly to remove any residue that may remain.
- Allow your custom cushion and/or custom pillow to air dry.
3. How do you remove stubborn mildew from fabric?
- Lightly brush or vacuum your furniture prior to cleaning.
- Use a spray bottle to mist your fabric with mild soap and water: 1/4 cup mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water.
- Saturate the stained area in the mixture for 15 minutes. Use a sponge or a soft-bristle brush as needed.
- Be sure to rinse the item thoroughly to remove any residue that may remain.
4. How do you care and maintain a cushion fabric?
- Window glass magnifies sun rays regardless of the season. It is important to protect your fabric from the sun.
- Vacuum your fabrics often to remove dust and other substances, preventing problematic stains.
- Do not place your fabrics around heating and cooling vents.

- If your cushions and/or pillows are made of Sunbrella Fabrics, you may add up to 1 cup of bleach to your cleaning solution; however, be sure to protect the area to prevent damage to anything else in the process.
- There is no set timetable for when fabric should be cleaned. The local environment will determine your specific cleaning frequency. The Cushion Pros Team recommends investing time and energy to ensure long-lasting use of your custom cushions and custom pillows.
