Poolside and patio chaises are long, often hinged, and almost never a stock size. We build a connected seat-and-back pad to your length, width, seat depth, and back height, then sew it in Sunbrella or another performance fabric so the lounge looks finished instead of like a borrowed mattress. Ties, draining fill, and a 3–4″ core keep the silhouette long — start in the designer or order a swatch first if the chaise sits next to an existing sofa.
One-piece pad that follows the frame
The chaise flow is a connected seat and back. That matters when the back adjusts: the cushion has to fold with the frame instead of buckling or sliding off a separate seat. Fixed-back chaises use the same template — you still enter total length along the longest edge. Double chaises and many daybeds are the same idea at a wider width.
How to measure a chaise
Record overall width, seat depth, back height, and total length along the longest rail — not a compressed old pad. Note whether the back hinges or is welded in place. If the chaise tapers, capture the width at the shoulders and at the foot. Thickness is usually 3–4″ so the silhouette stays long and tailored; thicker cores can look bulky on a slim metal frame. Fill that dries after a swim day
A chaise lives in splash range. Indoor foam holds water — skip it outdoors. Densified fiber drains after rain and pool water; reticulated foam is the premium, batting-wrapped core for the fastest dry-out on a pool deck. Neither fill is a sealed waterproof brick; they are built to shed water and dry in the air. Pair them with solution-dyed acrylic so the cover does not mildew while the core dries.
Ties, welting, and a matching set
Open slat chaises and wheels that roll often need ties so the pad does not walk when someone sits down hard. Boxed edge with optional double welting is the usual outdoor look. Order the side chairs and ottoman in the same fabric so the lounge set matches. A lumbar or bolster on the chaise uses loose poly-fill — add it in the same order so the dye lot stays together.
Replacement pads for the chaise you already own
Most chaise orders replace a faded or flattened pad on a frame that is still good. Measure the furniture. If the old cover is the only record you have, lay it flat and do not stretch it. We build within ½″ of your numbers. Odd vintage or boat chaises can use a paper template mailed to Griffin — production time starts when it arrives.
Leaving the pad out vs covering the chaise
Outdoor fill and Sunbrella are meant to live outside, but a cover or a dry shed still extends the life of the cloth and the thread. If the chaise stays in full Florida or Gulf sun twelve months a year, budget for a breathable cover in the off weeks and a yearly wash (see the care guide). Do not wrap a damp pad in plastic. Standing the cushion on edge after a storm is the fastest way to finish drying the core.

Ties help on open slats and rolling frames. A deep, enclosed chaise pan often holds a snug boxed pad without them. You choose fasteners in the designer.
