Custom Sofa Cushions

A patio sofa or indoor three-cushion couch rarely matches a catalog size. We build replacement seat and back cushions to your frame — 3-seat/3-back, 2-seat/2-back, or a single bench-style slab — in the same performance fabrics as the rest of your set. Enter the numbers, pick Sunbrella (or another outdoor cloth) and a draining fill, and we cut and sew in Griffin so the new pads sit in the rails instead of floating on a too-small store cushion.

Multi-cushion layouts that match the frame

Configure 3-seat/3-back, 2-seat/2-back, or one long seat (with or without backs). Each cushion in the row can have squared or rounded corners independently so a left arm, a right arm, and a middle pad can each follow the rail. Deep-seating outdoor sofas use the same flow as an indoor replacement set — the difference is fill and fabric, not a different product line.

How to measure sofa cushions

Measure the furniture, not the collapsed foam. For each seat, record width and depth at the widest sitting surface. If the sofa is split into three, measure each bay; they are not always equal. Back cushions need width and height from the seat surface to the top of the back rail. Add the thickness you want to sit on — most outdoor sofa seats are 4–5″. Widths over 24″ generally need at least 3″ of core for support; the designer flags that automatically.

Indoor foam vs outdoor fill

A covered sunroom can use standard indoor foam. An open patio should not: indoor foam holds water. Densified fiber is the outdoor standard and drains after rain; reticulated foam is the premium, batting-wrapped upgrade for faster dry-out. Optional polyester batting on a slab adds a softer sit without turning the core into a sponge. Toss pillows and lumbar backs on the same sofa use loose poly-fill, not the seat slab.

Edges, welting, and a finished set

Boxed edge is the classic outdoor-sofa look — a vertical sidewall equal to the thickness. Double welting outlines the top and bottom seams. Knife edge is softer and more informal. Order the ottoman, chairs, and toss pillows in the same Sunbrella (or Outdura) so the set reads as one piece. We cut everything in one Griffin workroom so dye lots stay together when you order as a batch.

Replacement cushions vs starting over

Most sofa orders are replacements: the frame is fine, the pads are not. Enter the old cover laid flat (do not stretch it) or the opening between the arms. If you are unsure about the 2-vs-3 split, send a photo to customer service at (866) 554-0804. We build within ½″; if our finished size is more than an inch off what you ordered, we rework or replace it.

Loveseats, sectionals, and two-cushion sofas

A loveseat is the same sofa flow at two seats. Sectionals are a set of sofa (and sometimes chaise) pieces ordered as separate lines that share a fabric — measure each bay; corner wedges are not a leftover from the straight seats. If you only need to refresh the three-seat sofa and leave the chaise pad another season, order just that frame. We would rather cut one accurate piece than guess a whole pit group from a single photo.

Built in Georgia, about 15 business days

Every sofa cushion is cut and sewn in-house — never outsourced overseas. Standard production is about 15 business days before the order ships, with expedited production at checkout when you need a faster turnaround. Order fabric swatches first if the sofa has to match a rug, a painted wall, or an existing pillow in afternoon light.

Frequently asked questions

Can you match my existing sofa cushion layout?

Yes. Select the seat and back count in the designer, then enter dimensions for each row. Call (866) 554-0804 or send photos if you need help confirming a 2-seat vs 3-seat split.

How thick should sofa cushions be?

Most outdoor sofa seats use 4–5″. Widths over 24″ generally need at least 3″ of core for support — the designer flags this automatically.

Can I replace just the seat cushions and keep my old backs?

Yes. Order only the seats. If you want the new seats to match faded backs, a swatch in hand is safer than matching from a screen.

Indoor or outdoor fill for a sunroom sofa?

If weather never reaches the cushions, indoor foam is fine. If the room takes blown rain or you store the sofa outside in winter, use densified fiber or reticulated foam.

Will the new cushions match my ottoman and chairs?

Order them in the same fabric from the library (or the same swatch name). When you buy the set together we cut in one workroom batch.
